Chile: Central Bank puts forth new nominees for TDLC position

Chile’s Central Bank Council has announced its new trio of nominees, composed of Francisco Aguero Vargas, Críspulo Marmolejo González and Nicolás Rojas Covarrubias. These nominees will be presented to President Michelle Bachelet, who will choose from among them a replacement for Jaime Arancibia Mattar, currently a Substitute Minister for the country’s free competition authority, the TDLC.

    Francisco Aguero Vargas is an attorney, graduating from the Universidad de Chile in 2000, with postgraduate studies in Economics and Finances for Law at the Universidad de Chile, MSc in Economic Regulation and Competition from the Department of Economics at The City University in London. He has represented several companies in free competition matters both before the TDLC and the Supreme Court. Mr. Aguero has written several law briefs on economic and competition matters.

    Críspulo Marmolejo is an attorney from the Universidad Central de Chile, with a Masters at Law awarded by the Universidad de Chile, with credits in Economic Law and an MA in International Studies from the St. Thomas University in Houston, Texas. Between 2013 and 2014 he served as a Substitute Minister for the TDLC. He has authored several publications on economics and free competition.

    Nicolás Rojas Covarrubias is a lawyer, graduated from the Universidad de Chile and a Master of Law from Columbia University in New York. He has been the lead legal counsel in several matters before the TDLC, serving also as a consultant for various companies in terms of competition law and related probes conducted by the National Economic Prosecutor’s office.
